Under Construction: TwentyTwenty Condominiums (images)

Construction is underway on TwentyTwenty, a 162 condominium development at NE 21st Ave and Multnomah St desgined by Hacker architects for PHK Development. 172 parking spaces will be provided in two levels of below-grade parking. The building will also include 179 bicycle parking spaces. TwentyTwenty is one of only two large condominium buildings currently under construction in Portland, the other being the Vista Pearl.

The building will occupy a 37,500 sq ft lot at the corner at 2020 NE Multnomah St, seen above in 2016. There was previously one single family house on the site, which was demolished in late 2016.

To the south of the site an approximately 15,000 sq ft environmental resource tract will remain undeveloped. An easement granted to the city will allow for the future construction of the Sullivan’s Gulch trail.

The seven story building is arranged in a Z-shaped plan, intended to reduce the scale from the street and to emphasize views to both Mt. Hood and downtown Portland. An amenity deck with seating, a fire pit and barbecues will be located in the open side of the “Z”, at the west side of the building. A smaller amenity deck is proposed near the main building entrance on NE 21st Ave. Townhouse style units with stoops will be located on the east side of the building at the ground level.

A building permit for the TwentyTwenty Condominiums was issued in September 2017. Completion is expected in the summer of 2019. According to a press release “homes will be priced from the mid-$300Ks for one-bedrooms and the high $500Ks for two-bedrooms.”

  1. The units look very sleek but also quite cold. Too much white. I’d also feel bad for the people directly facing the Banfield. Oh well… Still, it’s nice to see an otherwise vacant corner get developed. I wonder why more condo projects aren’t being built.

  2. Funny how as soon as we’re talking condos, parking needs to be there. Had this been apartments there would have been 10 parking spots. Since they want people to buy the units and actually invest in the building, a parking spot becomes a necessity.

  3. The foundation was barely poured and already marked by taggers. The location is not appealing, a history of lots of graffiti, the ravine facing I-84 has always been sketchy. They’ll need good security, especially for the garage in the basement. Not an appealing location to own a condo, wedged next to RR tracks, on a steep grade, adjacent to an overpass and a freeway.

    • I think with all of the future construction on Sandy and the lloyd district changes there will be a community push to clean up the neighborhood a bit, would agree with you about the current situation though.

    • You’re right. They could have maybe 20 really nice spacious units, $800k and up, kept the greenery and space for rabbits, and not had to take out so much hillside. You could see the striations of sand and clay and gravel, as you’d expect from a former deep channel of the Columbia. The tree they left looks to be dying for want of sun. Property values for the rest of the once lovely neighborhood wil go down, down, down as the traffic noise increases, and perhaps petty crime. And with the monstrosity planned 3 blocks west, it could be an instant slum I’m not usually pessimistic, but I don’t think this was good planning at all on the part of the city or the developers.

  4. If anything, it’s just a few blocks from all the construction off sandy there and it has views. Always a big selling point.

    • Well just because you can’t afford it doesn’t mean others are willing to pay for it. It’s called capitalism.

      • just wait until all those willing to pay it today are gone. Then what? These aren’t luxury units. They’re bare bone and often tiny. There is a huge problem with building all these rental units while at the same time there is no demand for condos.
