Beam Development is moving forward with the Workshop Blocks (formerly known as the ODOT Blocks), reports the Daily Journal of Commerce. Last week the board of Prosper Portland, who own the site, voted to authorize a 99-year ground lease*. Beam plans to build 100,000 sq ft of industrial office space on Block A, which will be first of three buildings planned.

The Business Tribune reported on how construction workers are grappling with social distancing.

Portland Architecture spoke to Emerick Architects, who recently celebrated 20 years in practice.

  1. Is that a surface lot I see in the rendering? I hope it turns into something more green or useful. It seems wasteful to use prime land as surface parking!

  2. Interesting to see Prosper employ a 99-year lease, though the option to purchase clause should have been (or should be) removed IMO.

  3. Development Map updates based on drive-by inspection today (April 18): Hyatt Unbound at SW Third and Salmon is shown on the map as green, meaning under construction, but there is not sign of construction on the property. The 7-story multi-family project facing the Park Blocks at Columbia west of the recently completed Broadway Tower is also shown as being under construction. But there is no construction; instead there is a sign on the site advertising the property for sale by HFO Investment Real Estate. By contrast 11West is shown on the map as a yellow dot, meaning permit review. However, excavation is well underway.
