Single 5-story building with approximately 19 units of market-rate, multi dwelling housing. The proposed building has approximately 17,000 gross square footage and is approximately 50 feet in height. Both exterior and interior bike parking will be provided. The existing pavement parking lot will be demolished and replaced with the building, open space amenities, landscaping and sidewalks.
The University of Portland Shiley-Marcos Center for Design & Innovation at 5000 N Willamette Blvd has been submitted for building permit review by Opsis Architecture:
U of P SHILEY-MARCOS CNTR – Renovation and addition to the 1979 3-story Physical Plant, becoming the 43,796-sf, 4-story Shirley-Marcos Center for Design & Innovation. I’m afraid I’ve moved to the point where something like the Shirley-Marcos Center looks like the worst of 1950s “sprawl”. A free-standing building, apparently in the middle of a field, with no context, no connection to other buildings, much less a connection to a city! Looks like it’s so isolated that it’s users will all drive there. It’s totally uninviting, to me. (I know, it’s at UP, so why not celebrate that instead of excluding it.)

I was able to see a few more renderings and a site plan, and can say that the Shirley-Marcos Center is in fact nestled into a hillside site, is 4-stories tall on one side, and displaces a services building to locate this building near to the central quad of UP. I was fooled by the “building in isolation” tendency in rendering choices!
There’s a typo – should be “Shiley-Marcos Center” not “Shirley-Marcos Center”.
