The Historic Landmarks Commission has approved the Multnomah County Central Courthouse. The 17 story, $300 million project will replace the existing courthouse on SW 4th Avenue, which is considered seismically unsound and no longer fit for use. The architects for the project are Portland based SRG Partnership and New York based CGL RicciGreene. The landscape architects are PLACE.

The program for the 325′ tall building includes multiple courts, office for District Attorneys, Public Defenders, Sheriffs, as well as support areas for staff, juries, defendants and the public. No parking is proposed. The project intends to achieve LEED Gold Certification.

Design Advice Offered For New High Rise East of KOIN Tower (images)

Design Advice has been offered to GBD Architects for a full block, 20 story mixed-use building at 140 SW Columbia St. The project for Texas-based developer Alamo Manhattan would include 306 residential units in the upper 16 floors and 12,205 sq ft of retail and 3 live/work units on the ground floor. Parking for 269 vehicles would be provided in a three story above grade parking podium structure. Exterior terraces are proposed at levels 5, 13 and 20. The building would reach a height of 200′, despite earlier indications that it could be as tall as 260′.

Under Construction: The Woodlark Hotel (images)

Construction is underway on The Woodlark hotel, a major renovation of two downtown buildings. The project will convert two adjacent National Register listed buildings into a single hotel, to be operated by Provenance Hotels. News of the 151 bed hotel was first announced in February 2015, after years of uncertainty over the future of the Cornelius Hotel building, which faced possible demolition as recently as 2013. The renovation is being designed by MCA Architects and funded by NBP Capital.

No vehicular parking is proposed. 14 long-term bike parking spaces are proposed in a locked, basement level room.

Design Commission approves 3rd & Taylor office (images)

The Design Commission has approved an office development at SW 3rd & Taylor, that will replace the Ancient Order Of United Workmen Temple. The 10 story building by Ankrom Moisan Architects will include 181,295 sq ft of office space and 9,530 sq ft of retail space. Two levels of underground parking will be provided, accessed from SW 2nd Ave. A bicycle room at the ground level will provide 124 bicycle parking spaces.

The project is being developed by Third & Taylor Development LLC, a partnership between Onder Development and Arthur Mutal. The same architect and development team recently gained approval for a 20 story hotel tower on the same block.

260′ Tall Building Planned at 140 SW Columbia

A Pre-Application Conference has been scheduled by GBD Architects to discuss a full block, high-rise, mixed-use structure at 140 SW Columbia St. Drawings show retail and residential at the ground floor, with retail spaces facing SW 1st Ave, Columbia St and 2nd Ave. Floors 2, 3 and 4 will be structured parking with 265 parking spaces, serving the residential uses proposed in the body of the tower.
