Jupiter Hotel expansion approved by Design Commission (images)

The Design Commission has approved an expansion of the Jupiter Hotel designed by Works Partnership. The new 6 story building will add 67 rooms on a site directly to the east of the existing hotel. The ground floor would include restaurant and retail spaces facing onto E Burnside, along with a lobby and reception located at the corner of the site. An upper level lounge, banquet hall and exterior garden are proposed for the second floor. Guest rooms would be located in floors 3 to 6. No new vehicular parking is proposed.

Burnside Delta approved by Design Commission (images)

The Design Commission has approved the Burnside Delta, a new six story mixed use building at E Burnside and 12th Ave. The project by Vallaster Corl Architects for developer Urban Development Group will include 85 residential units above 2,500 sq ft of retail. At the 6th floor the building will include a community room and exterior deck on level 6. Parking for 18 cars would be provided in a mostly below grade garage. Bicycle parking for 75 bikes will be provided in the basement, with the remainder of the required spaces provided in the units.

Renovation of Towne Storage building approved (images)

The Historic Landmarks Commission has approved designs for the renovation and expansion of the Blake McFall Company building, commonly known as the Towne Storage building. The project by LRS Architects for Sentinel Development and Westport Capital Partners will adapt the existing building for creative office space, with a restaurant space at the ground floor. As part of the project the unreinforced masonry building will receive a seismic upgrade.

Grand Belmont returns as 23 story tower (images)

Grand Belmont, the project by Urban Assets Advisors whose height was of significant concern to the Historic Landmarks Commission last year, has returned in front of the Commission as a 23 story point tower. As now proposed the Vallaster Corl designed building would reach 240′ and include 214 residential units. A rooftop common room and exterior terrace are proposed for the top floor. Three ground floor retail spaces totalling 6,500 sq ft would open onto SE Grand Avenue. Parking for 102 vehicles would be provided in the podium portion of the tower.

An event space as well as an upper level lounge, connected to the lobby by a stair, is proposed for the second floor. Guest rooms would be located in floors 3-6.

Design Commission approves affordable housing on St Francis Park (images)

The Design Commission has approved designs for the St Francis Park Apartments by MWA Architects. The building will include 106 units of affordable housing, including for women transitioning from homelessness and victims of domestic and sexual violence. The project is being delivered as a partnership between government agency Home Forward and nonprofit Catholic Charities.

Boora Architects envisions mixed-use concept Water Avenue Yards for State-owned blocks in Central Eastside (images)

Boora Architects have unveiled a conceptual plan for widespread redevelopment of several blocks of Portland’s Central Eastside Industrial District just north of the Hawthorne Bridge that for years have sat largely unused. Dubbed Water Avenue Yards, the project includes a range of mixed-use buildings, athletic fields and park space that would extend from Water Avenue west to the Willamette River.

Boora’s design isn’t the direct result of a call for proposals but rather the firm’s vision for what the area could be like in the future as the city mulls options for the land.
