Oregon Square (images)

GBD Architects and Place Studio landscape architects have received initial Design Advice for Oregon Square. The project is the second phase in the redevelopment of 16 blocks owned by American Assets Trust in the Lloyd. The first phase, Hassalo on Eighth, is under construction, with completion scheduled for late 2015. Oregon Square will include over 1,000 apartments in four towers, the tallest of which would have 32 floors.

Given the scale of the development, it is expected to have at least three or four Design Advice sessions before submitting for a full Design Review. The focus of the initial session was the overall urban and landscape design. Subsequent sessions will look at the building designs in more detail.

Lloyd Center remodel heading to Design Review

A new entrance into the Lloyd Center is being created as part of the $50 million remodel of the 1960s mall, led by Waterleaf Architecture. The project had two Design Advice Request hearings earlier in the year, and is now scheduled to have its first Design Review hearing on December 18th.

The work involves creating a new plaza, to offer pedestrians a more welcoming entrance into the building from NE Multnomah St. The plaza will include a new entry in the existing Macy’s store, and new retail units on the west side of the plaza. The space will terminate in a new 3-story curtain glass wall, with a helical stair behind it.  The plaza will contain raised storm water and landscape planters, as well as a green wall feature. 30 dual bike racks will be added, under the cover of the existing parking structure.

Former Red Lion transforming into the Hotel Eastlund (images)

A former Red Lion hotel in the Lloyd District is currently undergoing a transformation into the Hotel Eastlund, set to open in May 2015. The project’s design is by Holst Architecture, who worked with the same developer on the Hotel Modera in Downtown. The hotel will have 168 rooms, down from 173 before the remodel.

Pre-Application Conference scheduled for the Convention Center Hotel

A Pre-Application Conference [PDF] has been scheduled for the Oregon Convention Center Hotel project. The project is still at an early stage in its design, but current plans are for a building 15-19 stories tall on the superblock to the north of the Convention Center. The Hyatt owned hotel would have 600 rooms.  There will also be an above grade parking garage with approximately 385 spaces. The project team includes Minneapolis-based developer Mortenson, ESG Architects, also of Minneapolis, local architects Ankrom Moisan, and landscape architects Mayer Reed.
