Metro Reports: YBP Ankeny, Harbor Sky Lot 1, 6610 N Greenwich, and more

YBP Ankeny will go in front of the Design Commission on Thursday June 17th for an advisory Design Advice Request meeting. According to the applicant’s narrative, the “project seeks to create a home for young Black professionals in Portland interested in a career in the AEC [Architecture, Engineering and Construction] industry—a place where they can live together in community to support one another in a city where few share their lived experience as a person of color.”

Every week, the Bureau of Development Services publishes lists of Early Assistance applications, Land Use Reviews and Building Permits processed in the previous week. We publish the highlights. This post covers May 10th, 2021 to May 16th, 2021.

  1. I’m disappointed that 2515 SE 30th has gone from 32 units in the 2018 application, to 12 units now. It was an innovative design. There was another 32 unit one planned at 2508 SE 32nd, which now appears to be dead, and can’t be revived because of the required Active Use ground floor now in effect on that site (but not on this one).

  2. Glad to see the 40-unit project at 1314 SE Cesar Chavez Blvd. Too bad the city couldn’t bring itself to do any but the mildest upzoning in SE. This could have been more housing if it were CM-2. I don’t know what “Garden style” means in apartments. A courtyard? Open upper walkways? I guess we’ll see.

  3. It would be nice if they could save the large street tree at the corner of Chavez and Main in front of 1314 Chavez.

  4. I’m sure that YBP Ankeny has admirable goals but don’t they violate fair housing laws against discrimination on the basis of race?
