Expansion of the International School proposed

An expansion of The International School is proposed, according to a Notice of a Pre-Application Conference [PDF] posted on the City website. The independent elementary school located at 025 SW Sherman Street provides Chinese, Spanish and Japanese language immersion.

The architects for the project are Mahlum. The notice describes the project as follows:

a new two to three story, approx. 14,000 sq. ft. classroom building. Exterior improvements include a retaining wall and stormwater planters. This proposal is generally consistent with the project that was discussed in a 2012 pre-app. conference (12-195820-EA).

The site of the proposed expansion is currently vacant land, fronting on to SW Caruthers St, which is a dead-end street from SW Water Ave.

The conference is scheduled for December 4th.

  1. No Parking Plans for this new expansion? What ? The Neighborhood is already maxed out between 7:30AM and 9:00 AM then again between 3:00 and 4:30… Parents parking in front of driveways, pho parking signs and sneaking on into private property for 45 min and thinking that no one will notice… Then when they get hit with the $85 ticket they come running after the parking buggy like lunatics !

Several folks have contacted Robert Woods who is the head of School…. He docent seem to interested in coming up with a solution…
