Block 136 heading to Design Review (images)

After a going through the Design Advice process earlier in the year, Block 136 is heading to Design Review. The design of the project, located at NW 13th & Johnson, is by Seattle based architects Mithun for Security Properties. The project will replace PNCA’s Goodman building, a building which will be missed by many, even as they recognize the need for the city to change. The project consists of two buildings separated by a courtyard: a 5 story office building facing NW 13th Ave; and a 15 story residential tower facing NW 12th Ave.

North Pearl High-Rises, Part II: The Overton (images)

This post is the second in a series on the high-rises currently under construction in the North Pearl. See also Part I about the Cosmopolitan on the Park and Part III about Block 17.

The Overton apartments are currently under construction on a block that previously housed a single story warehouse. The 26-story building will be 252’ tall, and will include 284 residential units.  The design, for Unico Properties, is by the Seattle of office of ZGF Architects with Ankrom Moisan as associate architect.

North Pearl High-Rises, Part I: The Cosmopolitan on the Park (images)

This post is the first in a series on the high-rises currently under construction in the North Pearl. See also Part II about the Overton and Part III about Block 17.

The Cosmopolitan on the Park is currently rising on a previously vacant parcel owned by Hoyt St Properties, between NW Northrup St & Overton St and NW 10th Ave & 11th Ave. At 340′ tall, the 28 story building will be the tallest building in the Pearl, and the 8th tallest building in Portland. Previously known as Block 15, the project by Boora Architects includes 168 condominium units and 6,866 square feet of ground floor retail space. 5 of the residential units are intended as live/work units, with entries directly onto NW Overton St. 197 car parking spaces and 254 bicycle spaces are provided in a 4-story above grade podium.

Under Construction: Pearl West (images)

Pearl West, a 230,000 sq ft office building at NW 14th & Irving has been under construction since July. The project is the first new build office building to break ground in the central city since the recession. (Park Avenue West resumed construction in 2013, after being halted in 2009).  The building’s design is a collaboration by THA Architecture and GBD Architects.  The developer is BPM Real Estate.
