Hassalo on Eighth, pt III: The Elwood

The second building to open in the massive Hassalo on Eighth development by American Assets TrustGBD Architects and Place Studio will be the Elwood, a five story building with 143 apartments and 26,000 sq ft of retail space. The building will include a mix of studios, one and two bedroom units. The ground floor of the building is intended to be occupied by a specialty grocer, the identity of which has yet to be announced. As reported in the Oregonian, the building is named for a steamboat built in Portland in 1891.

Pearl Hampton Inn & Suites (images)

Design Review drawings for a Hampton Inn & Suites in the Pearl District have been submitted to the City. The proposed 8 story hotel at NW 9th & Everett will have 243 guest rooms and 104 above grade car parking spaces. The ground level will include hotel public spaces such as the lobby, lounge, dining area and meeting rooms facing onto NW 9th Ave. There will also be restaurant and retail spaces fronting NW Everett St and NW Park Avenue. A roof terrace overlooking the Park Blocks will be located on the 8th floor.

The developer of the project is Wisconsin based Raymond Management CompanyGary Brink & Associates, also of Wisconsin, are the architects of record, while local firm Hannebery Eddy are serving as the design architects.

Works Partnership has applied for a building permit for the Concordia Student Housing at 1616 NE Killingsworth St:

Bassetti Architects has applied for a series of building permits for the Roosevelt High School Modernization:

The Willamette Week reported that Metro has asked state lawmakers to pass a law that would ensure the Convention Center Hotel will be exempt from a public vote.

As part of their ongoing series about the Central Eastside, The Oregonian wrote about the thriving food and drink industry in the rapidly changing area.

The Land Use Board of Appeals upheld [PDF] the City of Portland’s approval of the Conditional Use Permit for the Japanese Garden Expansion. The project will include new buildings by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, with THA Architects acting as the local design firm.

The first images of the proposed Canopy by Hilton in the Pearl District were published by The Oregonian.

Urban Works Real Estate will be handling the leasing for the renovated 1320 Broadway building, formerly home to The Oregonian. On their blog they sneak peek at some of the updates and amenities the Pietro Belluschi designed building will receive.

The Portland Chronicle published photos of the demolition of a house at 1459 SE Ankeny St, where a new five-story mixed-use building is under construction.

Mason Erhman Building Annex Renovations (images)

SERA Architects and Beam Development have received initial Design Advice from the Historic Landmarks Commission for renovations of the Mason Erhman Building Annex, also known as the Zellerbach Paper Company Building. The project will convert the existing storage building into office space, with the potential for ground floor retail. Many of the improvements required to make it a viable commercial space will not be visible from the street, and will include adding thermal insulation at the inside face of the exterior walls and above the roof as well as installing a new HVAC system.

A Design Review is underway for Couch9, an 11 story mixed-use building in the Pearl. The proposed building will contain 137 residential units and 8,000 sq ft of retail in an 126’-8” tall structure. The residential units will be a mix of studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments. A rooftop deck for the common use of residents would be provided at the 11th level, along with an associated clubroom and fitness area. 87 car parking spaces would be located in two underground levels. 242 bicycle parking spaces would be located throughout the building in common storage areas and within the individual units. The project design is by Vallaster Corl Architects for Urban Asset Advisors who previously worked together on the Lower Burnside Lofts.

A building permit is under review for 240 Clay, a new industrial office building in the Central Eastside. The five-story building will include 60,000 square feet of office space and approximately 5,000 square feet of ground floor retail space. The developers of 240 Clay are Killian Pacific, who are also behind the now under construction Goat Blocks project. The architects are Mackenzie.

SERA Architects and developer Mortenson have received initial Design Advice for the 12th & Market Apartments. The proposed 10-story building would have 114 residential units, aimed at students. No off street car parking is proposed. 171 long term bike parking spaces would be provided in a ground floor bike storage room. A rooftop terrace and common room for the use of the residents would be at the south-west corner of the building.
